Sidewalk Astronomer John Dobson Ailing in L.A.
To all of you who know and love John Dobson as a dear friend and teacher, this is to tell you that lately John hasn't been well. Last week John had some problems with dizziness and trouble keeping his balance. He fell, and was taken to the hospital for some tests. They now believe that John had a stroke. He is scheduled to meet with a neurologist today to find out more about his condition. He will remain in Los Angeles, where he's been staying, to give him time to heal. They say that John is in good spirits, but that it's been frustrating for him, because it's keeping him from teaching, traveling and doing his usual energetic work. We can write to John c/o The Sidewalk Astronomers, 1946 Vedanta Place, Los Angeles, CA 90068. Please, no telephone calls until he's feeling better.

Greetings Dr. Dobson,
I'm just another of those slathering fans of yours who is so grateful for your work and teaching. I hope that you are in robust health once again.
My question is: are there any of your lectures available on CD or for MP3 download? I have an old cassette recording from the radio from many years ago. It is the Origins talk. I am currently trying to update all my media--getting rid of cassettes and such.
Thanks,

Dear Pacifica Riptide News site
I just wanted to comfort any who are concerned, as I visited John later in the summer of 2008 with one of my students. He was doing fine in June through the end of 2008. His secretary has recently reported to me that he is still fine as of the New Year 2009 altough he did not attend his usual trip to Death Valley for the holidays.

I hope John recovers fully and quickly. I can't think of anyone else who has done so much to popularize amateur astronomy.
