The last issue of the Trib had an article about the impact of the economic slump on Pacifica businesses, and that inspired my wife Janet to suggest that we take the opportunity to patronize our local restaurants. What a great idea! We started with dinner at Nona's on Thursday night, complete with to-die-for complimentary biscuits, a delectable broccoli-and-cheddar soup (the soups at Nona's are always exceptional), and one of my all-time favorite desserts -- their butterscotch pudding.
This morning, we had breakfast at the Corral. It must be unique: a respected steakhouse that has fabulous vegetarian breakfasts! We had the Cowgirl Frittata and the Lousy Hunter while enjoying listening to the the jazzy background music and watching horses cavorting outside.
Tonight, we had dinner with friends at El Toro Loco, which included excellent sangria, a delicious yucca appetizer with spicy dipping sauce, and one of the best vegetarian burritos I've ever encountered. (Tip: It's even better when topped with mojado sauce!) Who could ask for more? Well, how about live music? There's a trumpet-and-keyboards jazz duo at El Toro Loco. At first you might think it's just background music, but pay attention and you'll realize that these guys are first-class musicians.
Next stop, Barolo!

I'll throw a shameless plug in here for Viva Italiano. Some of the best veal parmigiana in the Bay Area, and Calamari to die for.

Larry,
I too was inspired by this article to have my recent 50 BD dinner at Nona's. As always the food was yummy. I am a French Onion soup afficinado since that is rarely vegetarian unless you take the time to make it at home.
I appreciate hearing about the Corral's veggie breakfasts, but I had to give up eating at steak places years ago because of the smell among other reasons...
Have fun at Barolo's!

Larry, El Toro Loco is a gem. The four of us should go!
