Patricia Delich noticed that two different ads in the July 1 Pacifica Tribune had confusing information about fines for illegal fireworks. But the front-page news story quoted the actual city ordinance: minimum fine for using illegal fireworks is $200 for the first offense, $400 for the second offense, and $1,000 for the third offense. The minimum fine for possessing under 25 pounds of illegal fireworks is $1,000. For the full ordinance, see CITY OF PACIFICA

Are there fines for the noise pollution and remnants left in the streets and on beaches? I've already seen piles on the beaches that will soon end up in the ocean. This town is a joke when it comes to enforcing these laws. Just how many citations are given each year, and do they outweigh the costs of all the extra police on duty? I'd love to see a cost-benefit analysis presented to community members. It's time for these community organizations that prosper to clean-up the messes they contribute to.
