Alaska Governor Sarah Palin, unsuccessful 2008 GOP vice presidential candidate, not only won't seek reelection, she leaves office within a month, according to multiple reports. Alaska's KTUU reports: "Gov. Sarah Palin will resign her office in a few weeks, she said during a news conference at her home Friday morning. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell will be inaugurated at the Governor's Picnic at the end of the month." CNN reports that Palin will quit in a month, as well.

thought I would share Huffington Post blogger Geoffrey Dunn's name for Sarah Palin's resignation:
The Iquitarod.

Now if we could only persuade Arnold to do the same thing. After all as Sarah says, there is no sense in being a lame duck.

interesting commentary on Palin's attack on Alaskan blogger and TV commentator Shannyn Moore.
As someone who has been threatened with a lawsuit multiple times for expressing political opinion in a public forum, I think this is a downright scary precedent being set if it is successful.

Quitter!!!! Can't wait to see the right-wingers try to explain this away. Guaranteed they will try to make her look like a sympathetic figure, but I say just pathetic.

She cut and ran. She had maybe a 1% chance of being the Republican presidential candidate in 2012, but now it's 0.1%.
Reading my old hometown newspaper, the Fairbanks Daily News Miner, it looks like most locals aren't upset at seeing her go. Even the newspaper editorialized that it was better for her to go, since she had clearly lost interest in being Governor, and had become ineffective.

When the going gets tough, the tough, uh , er, resign?
Didn't the people of Alaska elect this person to govern for a full term?
Good riddance to unstable material.
