Students and staff at Ingrid B. Lacy Middle School in Pacifica practiced compassion and acceptance April 19-23 in a program called "Be the Change." Monday was for giving compliments, Tuesday was for meeting new people, Wednesday was for healing old wounds, Thursday was for Earth Day cleanup, and Friday was for showing love and respect to others. So let's hear how it went: Scroll down and click COMMENTS. We are always interested in following local peace and nonviolence initiatives like this one.

Real men are not threatened by the idea of giving compliments, meeting new people, healing old wounds, Earth Day cleanup, and showing love and respect to others. Men who think these things make them "wussies" and are "girlie-concerns" are the problem. Ask any woman.

Sounds like the kids are being taught how to be adults. Good on them. Those skills will assure their own long-term success and happiness, as well as that of whatever communities they choose to get involved in.

Next month the Ingrid B. Lacy staff will probably have the boys wear pink, frilly dresses, 'cause they think it'll sensitize the boys to girlie-concerns.
Put an ex-Marine in charge of that school. Get Jr. ROTC in there.
