Who said anything about kilts, John? That remark is definitely off-kilter! (You do know that most Scotsmen wouldn't be seen dead in a kilt, and that the kilts you do see when you visit Scotland are almost all worn by Americans tracing their heritage?)
As for your incitement to repatriate: Any more jibes at my heritage will be referred to the Center for Scotological Diversity.

You can see the foreign influences creeping in here: references to Italian seafood, Scottish sports, French appetizers, garlic and kilts. What the hell are we turning into? Pacifica for Pacificans, I say. Locals Only!

Now I wonder if the snails from Laguna Salada were escargot or scungilli? That would answer the salty or not question.

Wasn't Pacifica part of some Mafia artichoke war? And wasn't Linda Mar nothing but a big artichoke field? (After the lake was filled in, of course.)

They will be hearing from the Center for Gastronomical Diversity.

followed closely by banana slugs

The artichokes were not native to the area. They were illegal immigrants.

maybe the barnacles ate them

The entire local population of artichokes was wiped out by the golf course. The Great Artichoke Massacre is a dark but forgotten chapter in our city's history.

Thank you, Richard.

Todd --
The first (artichokes) picture was taken from a vantage point on the hill south of the golf course (in the general vicinity of the Moose Lodge), looking north (that's the Marin Headlands and Tamalpais in the far background).
Note the inlet connecting the Pacific to Laguna Salada approximately midway from north to south on the west short of the lagoon. The second (clubhouse) picture was taken from a vantage point to the east and slightly north of the clubhouse, looking southwest (those are the Mori Point hills in the background).

The topography of the first photo looks wrong... perhaps it was printed back to front?
