Ride Amtrak’s San Joaquin train to Merced and catch a cushy YARTS bus (three-point seat belts!) to Yosemite National Park. Check out this mysterious boulder (above) on the Valley Trail, near the John Muir millrace site. I call it Bear Head Rock. Can you see why?

Where did you board Amtrak and how long did it take to get you there?
(EDITOR'S NOTE: The fastest and easiest way is to take BART to Richmond (free parking at Colma BART from 3 p.m. Friday until Sunday late). Cross-platform transfer at Richmond to Amtrak San Joaquin train to Merced. Catch YARTS bus at train depot. Check amtrak.com for fares, schedules, etc. Do it all in one day round-trip or stay overnight in Yosemite or nearby.)
