You may remember a Riptide thread a few months ago about reopening the Oceana High School tennis courts. I thought then that it was imminent, but although the courts themselves were ready, there was an issue relating to accepting just part of the reconstruction project. I was told (by John Schulz, facilities director for JUHSD) that the courts will open to the public on nights and weekends (i.e., out-of-school hours) from May 1.

From Oceana High School website:
Oceana currently offers the following sports:
Basketball (girls' varsity & junior varsity, boys' varsity & junior varsity)
Tennis
Cross Country
Wrestling
Baseball
The new fields are a welcome addition for the community. AYSO soccer is able to host a local soccer tournament using these fields that brings thousands into Pacifica the first weekend of May and generates many tens of thousands in revenue for our soccer league and local hotels and businesses.

i just hope that the school and the neighbors will help keep skateboarders and rollerbladers off the new courts.

Good news about the tennis courts. I'm curious as to who is going to use the new football/soccer/track facilities. To the best of my knowledge, Oceana HS has no organized teams to use them. Perhaps the idea was "build it and they will come."
