If we don't behave as if we will succeed, we are complicit in our failure. We may well lose anyway, but we might as well die trying. If we can improve anything, it will be government. Corporations will never view us as more than cattle.

Society has become so corrupt from top to bottom that I wonder if there is any saving our democracy. The inequality in wealth just keeps getting larger and society just gets sicker as a result.

No difference as near as I can tell.
The same megalomaniacs fit themselves into whatever power structure is set up. Requiring transparency, having proper regulation, electing good politicians and being responsible activist citizens, with any luck, can keep things from getting too far out of hand.
We kind of lapsed on the eternal vigilance thing.
