SACRAMENTO – The state Senate Rules Committee today confirmed Jerry Hill, D-San Mateo, as chair of the Democratic Caucus and the Banking and Financial Institutions Committee and as a member of six other high-profile Senate committees – Appropriations; Budget & Fiscal Review; Budget Subcommittee (No. 4) on State Administration and General Government; Business, Professions & Economic Development; Energy, Utilities and Communications; and Labor and Industrial Relations.
Senate President pro Tempore Darrell Steinberg nominated Hill to the chairmanships in December. Hill’s nomination as a member to the six committees came early today as the Senate president pro tem announced his assignments to the nearly 30 Senate committees.
“We’re extremely fortunate to have such a talented team to help shape state policy with the goal of improving the lives of all Californians,” said Steinberg, in announcing the committee assignments. “Their expertise promises a very productive year ahead for the California State Senate.”
“I’m honored to be selected to so many committees that are integral to getting California’s economy, job growth and budget back on track,” said Hill. “I also look forward to a productive year of working with Senate colleagues to bring positive changes to our state.”
Hill’s Senate committee assignments build on his track record of leadership in the Legislature. He chaired the Assembly’s Democratic Caucus and the Select Committee on Biotechnology during his final year of four in the state’s lower house. Hill also served on the Assembly’s Agriculture; Appropriations; Business, Professions and Consumer Protection; and Government Organization committees.
