Golfdom, a monthly national magazine for golf course superintendents, in its February 2013 cover story, announces that Wayne Kappelman, greenskeeping superintendant at Sharp Park, has been named its national golf businessman of the year for 2012. Kappelman was cited by Golfdom for his "Herculean" efforts to maintain the golf course to high standards, using strictly organic methods, with a short-staffed maintenance crew, in the midst of the political and legal controversy at the golf course over the past few years. This is some long-overdue recognition for Wayne and his staff. Sharp Park has never been in better shape, and it shows.
I invite any golfers out there to come out and play this gem.
Wayne and his crew continue to do good work in spite of low staffing and outdated equipment, while protecting the environment at Sharp Park.
Good job, Wayne! Keep up the good work!
