If the D.A. finds enough to open up a full investigation, that is that. And if he doesn't, then that is that as well. It doesn't change the fact that the property control ordinance would be bad for Pacifica overall. It is expensive to live in the Bay Area and it isn't going anywhere but up. To think that capping a private property owner in his ability to manage a rental business that keeps up with expenses, and who can accommodate tenants in unforeseen events like earthquakes or fire, is pure ignorance.
Just know that the language surrounding just-cause eviction is written in a manner that it is costly and almost impossible to remove a tenant without it costing tens of thousands. Who wants that?

Realtors on council should publicly and uncategorically denounce these intimidation tactics on their peers.

Thank you so much. Why aren't our newspaper folks investigating some of these issues? Why aren't they exposing where our tax dollars go, not in giant buckets, but in detail? Why don't they report on how many of our dollars were spent, for example, on the last library bill? How much the Palmetto project is costing us at what benefit to taxpayers? Why are they not seeking to turn the old sewage treatment plant into a revenue generator? That's prime property for hotel development or apartments. Right near the beach. I suspect they are holding out to retry an expensive library complex that generates no income. We have more important issues facing our community, and the Tribune should be at the forefront.

So what was the result of the inquiry as to where councilmember Sue Digre lives? The only reason that's of interest is the potential conflict of interest in voting on rent stabilization for a place in which you live, as I understand it. If we had a functioning newspaper, we would already know that.

The real estate industry will continue to consume as much of our blood as they possibly can -- is there any intelligent opposition?

Well done, Chaya. The same bogus tactics were used in 2002 against the Art Center, and that charge was also led by real estate community members. I think it shows the rent control ordinance is really going to happen as these real estate folks like SAMCAR are resorting to such lowdown, below-the-belt tactics once again. I guess it's their thing.
