At 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday, the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office issued mandatory evacuation in Geyserville, on Highway 128 east to River Rock Casino. Sadly, staff at the 24-hour hotel casino are still searching for the keys that lock the front entrance.

Be safe, don't breathe smoke:

Stay safe, people: Minimize exposure to smoke -- it's like being in a giant cigarette.
Wearing a special mask called a “particulate respirator” can help protect your lungs from wildfire smoke. Choose a mask called a “particulate respirator” that has the word “NIOSH” and either “N95” or “P100” printed on it.

Late 1964 was a heckuva period in Northern California, with the fire mentioned here, landslides, extremely high rivers and flooding taking out parts of towns and highways, and a tsunami from the Alaskan quake wiping out a side of Crescent City among other effects along the coast. But all of those events combined probably won't come close to the devastation of developed property and lives from the current fires when all is accounted for.
