Pacifica drone operator Gerald Destremps, 55, appeared last week in San Mateo County Superior Court on a charge that his drone interfered with emergency personnel in a cliff rescue operation at Pacific Manor on January 27. He had pleaded not guilty at his pretrial hearing. He is now scheduled to stand trial on February 13. Caltrans, please clean up the debris (rocks, mud, leaves, trash) on the pavement and shoulders of Highway 1 (especially the downhill side) between the Devil’s Slide tunnels and the Pacifica city limits. We asked for this cleanup months ago and not a damn thing has been done about it, despite the best efforts of business leaders and city/county/state representatives to get Caltrans on the job. That filthy, dangerous roadway is a disgrace to Caltrans and a safety hazard for motorists and bicyclists. Caltrans is in direct violation of its own state highway code 91.6, which says Caltrans must give high priority to keeping the highway clean. Pacificans and other Coastsiders who use Highway 1 should protest to their elected representatives at every level of government (city, county, state).
Surf Spot restaurant on Sea Bowl Lane closed August 27, 2017. Facebook page says: "To receive a refund on any unused Surf Spot gift cards, please send the card with your mailing address to 4625 Coast Highway, Pacifica, CA 94044." Impressive that Surf Spot honored unused gift certificates. That's good, ethical business practice by local owners. We hope they paid off their vendor bills the same way, so nobody was stiffed.
