PACIFICA — A man whose body washed ashore in Pacifica on Sunday has been identified by the San Mateo County Coroner’s Office as Elliott Wakefield, 25, of San Francisco.

The coroner’s office did not release any other details.

Wakefield’s body was discovered on the beach below 800 Palmetto Ave. about 7:30 a.m. Sunday, according to police.

In an interview Sunday, Pacifica police Capt. Chris Clements said no foul play is suspected.

“There were no obvious injuries,” said Clements, adding that the body appeared to have been in the water for some time. “He was dressed in clothing you would expect someone to have if they were out for a walk.”

Clements said it was difficult to tell what led to the man’s death.

“It could have been a suicide; he may have fallen,” Clements said. “We really don’t know.”
