The web site doesn't specify the type of venue beyond it being a place where people can hear the speaker. A cafe or the library would most likely be the best place to host the informal talks. Salada Cafe hosts similar gathering throughout the year, so talking to Rick would most likely would yield positive acceptance of the concept and ideas behind the movement.
We have an added plus in town because so many people here are well educated. I'm not, but most everyone else is. We have plenty of scientists and academics locally.

I think the idea behind having it in a cafe or bar is to kind of up the cool factor of the science.
I just got a mailer from the Seahorse Saloon, maybe they'd be interested?

I'd go to one of these in Pacifica, for sure.
I don't know if it should be in the library. It seems the whole point is to do it in a cafe or bar. Maybe it's because everyone gets smarter after a couple bottles of beer. I don't think the people doing the speaking get paid, so it seems like local bars or cafes should jump at the chance to host something like this.

Tom Ball, the head librarian, would go for it, I'm sure. Let's all go to the library over the next few weeks, get books and CDs, and start asking.

I'd love to see Cafe Scientifique come to Pacifica. Would the Pacifica Library community room be a good venue? Or a place like the Salada Beach Cafe on Paloma and Oceana?

These are awesome, I've been to some (and one was recently featured on KQED's excellent weekly science series, Quest).
Maybe we should have one in Pacifica--lots of our neighbors work for the biotech industries in South City (including my wife), and the computer industry in the Silicon Valley.
If anyone can hook me up with a potential venue, I can investigate speakers.
