Really? Think it's rather obvious why there are Hummers and Escalades aplenty instead of gas sippers. Check out the profit margins of the behemoths and the tax breaks.

Remember the Honda CVCC from the mid 70's? It got 47mpg. Here we are 30 years on and the best mileage in a mass produced car we've got is the Prius at 48-51mpg? It raises the question why development stagnated.
