Check out Sandcastle, a new surf-and-turf restaurant at the Pacifica Beach Resort on Highway 1 at Crespi Drive. We read Jean Bartlett's review in the Tribune today, which got us to go in and check it out. The friendly new chef Tim cooked up some tasty peri peri shrimp and mahimahi for us, using his New Orleans/Maryland background to spice the food. Jean had recommended the crab ball appetizer, so we started with that, and it was delicious. (I have to admit I was a trifle skeptical about something called crab balls, but in truth they are just big round crabcakes. Yummy.) The grand opening is Friday, December 18. Sandcastle serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Let us hear what you think of the place. Scroll down and click Comments.

Woo hoo! It's so nice to have great food, service and view at the new Sandcastle. Chef Tim will spice it up for you too if you like a little excitement in your food. Try it! You'll like it! Save room for the Death by Chocolate. I have long wanted that site to be successful and this may just make the difference.

La Playa in the Pedro Point center gets my vote for best all round bar food. Like tonight's Tex/Mex BBQ special for $11.95. .
