CLICK HERE: PACIFICA PATCH REPORTS BREAKING NEWS ON QUARRY
It's official. And we feel vindicated. Last week we posted an email (see RIPTIDE SCOOP below) from the developer, and indicated that our confidential sources believed this deal was going down. We tried to get confirmation from the city, to no avail, and others pooh-poohed the whole notion of a deal, but we hung in there and left our post up. Now we get to say, "We told you so." Thanks to Camden Swita of Pacifica Patch for reporting this major Pacifica news story today, and for mentioning our role in breaking the story last week.

I hope it happens sometime in the next decade before I die!

If Mr. Barry Swenson wanted to build something that was actually in keeping with the zoning for this property, he would be the very first one. Every developer before him has bought a property whose zoning was known and public record, and then acted as though he had been singled out for mistreatment when he wasn't allowed to build something quite different from what the zoning described. I hope Mr. Swenson is going about this in a way that might work well for him and for Pacifica, and I wish him the best on this project.

The site may encompass 88 acres, but the footprint for development will be considerably less, according to past statements by the Coastal Commission and Fish & Wildlife.
I hope the potential buyer will be more realistic than the last developer, and work with the City Council to come up with an acceptable proposal.

Camden, why has my account at Patch been suspended? What have I done wrong?
Now on to the topic at hand. Barry Swenson Builder has built some pretty nice projects in the Bay Area. If I am not mistaken, Barry Swenson was at one time interested in the old wastewater treatment plant site. Perhaps with the current poor economic climate, people in Pacifica will actually work with Barry Swenson to develop and build something that will attract TAX REVENUE GENERATING businesses to Pacifica and enhance the natural beauty of the Calera Creek restoration area.

A quick note: Barry Swenson Builder has only made an offer on the quarry. There hasn't been a sale yet.
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Thanks, Camden, we appreciate your sharp eye on the details. Back to rewrite!)
