Free online courses have moved far beyond offerings for dilettantes and intellectual lightweights; but they can still provide greater fun and infinitely more satisfaction than, say, meetings of local government, video games, or watching sports on TV (local teams excepted, of course). The schools providing the courses are simply impressive, especially when you look at what regular tuition costs in those places. For extensive course listings with something for almost everyone, check out the websites of Udacity, edX, and Coursera. Though some low fees may be involved, learners of all ages, and particularly "mature" types, ought to check out osherfoundation.org.
