A few years ago, San Francisco allowed those Connemara-type homes on Brotherhood Way: large, detached, using up a lot of land but not housing as many people as apartments, condos, and townhomes.

SF evidently was deferring to the supervisor from the area who wanted to retain the Sunset District's low-density character.
Better to allow higher buildings along main streets like Taraval -- but that's controversial, too!

It'd be fine, if people stopped reproducing.
Sad to see that remnant of greenery vanishing.

Now, there is a new threat to the Brotherhood Greenbelt. The Oceanview Library is proposing an expansion. To do this, the plan is to build 20,000 sq. ft. in the Greenbelt between Head Street and Ramsell Street. This will take up over two square blocks. The development extends all the way to Brotherhood Way, but no traffic is allowed to enter this thoroughfare. At a time when most parking is ignored in San Francisco, this development seems care-dependent and proposes numerous parking stalls and even a road creating a one-way street down Head Street and exiting on Ramsell Street.

Please, get involved to stop this project.

We drove down Brotherhood Way a couple of months ago to go to an Armenian Festival and were shocked at all the construction. Is that Bufano statue/sculpture still there? It used to be on the grass on the right-hand side if you're traveling toward Lake Merced.

It's good to know the City of San Francisco has plenty of water to sustain population growth like this. Er...

That area was called Monkey Island when I was a kid. I lived in Parkmerced until the age of 12, and that wooded area was the best place in the world for kids living in that whole Parkmerced development to play in. God, it sickens me to see it troweled under. For me, it's akin to seeing Golden Gate Park troweled under. UGH.

I supervised and worked on at least some, perhaps all, of the plumbing for that synagogue. It is right across Brotherhood Way from that very lucrative atrocity. Great palindrome, Alan. Wow!

The Jews of Congregation Beth Israel-Judea, which is across the road from where the three- and four-story buildings are beginning to rise, are led to contemplate the future Brotherhood Way, as their palindrome scripture observes: "Are we not drawn onwards, we Jews, drawn onward to new era?"
