People love it here for the scenic beauty -- which will be destroyed by the virtual freeway segment proposed by Caltrans, the so-called Highway 1 widening project. Supposedly designed to "improve traffic"; even Caltrans laughingly admits it won't solve traffic problems, and if we really looked at alternatives to the widening, we'd not need to build it.
Caltrans refused to fully assess a combination of alternatives to its proposed massive cementing of this small coastal town (just under 5 acres of the quarry plus sound/retaining walls), including much lower-cost, higher-tech, widely used Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS).
