Southbound Highway 1 in Pacifica was a parking lot August 3, due to two traffic accidents and Caltrans' bonehead decision to do major roadwork in the middle of a workday. Click Comments below this post for angry reactions by motorists caught in the traffic jam. Tellingly, Caltrans ended up canceling roadwork planned for August 4, with no word about when it would reschedule. Hey, Caltrans, here's a clue: Nighttime is the right time!

Sharon, this is all on Caltrans. It did not even notify the City of Pacifica.

I've lived in Manor for 14 years and I've never seen it like this.

What a bunch of clueless idiots. They closed old Mori Point Road at the end of Bradford, but did not post it at Westport. Subsequently, hundreds of cars tried to use that route only to have to turn around and go back to Westport.

Come on, Pacifica! You can do better than this. You need to learn how to organize the work being done.
Residents can't plan to get anywhere in Pacifica because we are always stuck in traffic!
Weekends are horrible! Weekdays are horrible!
Help us out. Why don't we have officers directing traffic and helping us out!
I totally agree! Work the late evening hours to 5 a.m.

And now it's backed up past Skyline (6:15 p.m.).
Backed up to Highway 280 by 7 p.m.?
Way to go, Caltrans. Yeah, Pacifica trusts you to improve commute times...

It's backed up almost to Skyline right now (6 p.m.).

It is so goddamn irresponsible of Caltrans to conduct road maintenance during commute time. The public should be the main concern of Caltrans. Aside from the construction at the Linda Mar intersection, ALL other work should be done from 12 midnight to be completed by no later than 6 a.m. The residents of Pacifica are sick and tired of Caltrans' shitty work timing. The number 1 priority should be smooth traffic flow. If that means your/OUR workers work the midnight shift, then so be it! If the workers don't like it, too goddamn bad -- find another job. This issue is about the residents of the state being served properly! Not the workers who work for us choosing their own schedule! We pay their salaries; start making them do their job efficiently. They all don't have to go on break at the same time, which stops all progress. Two on break, six still working, on a continuous rotation. That way work continues. Please help us.

Larry:
How do you get on this county email list?
Posted by: bigbanker | August 03, 2015 at 05:31 PM
Northbound tomorrow, 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Got it. I'll plan a day at home catching up on paperwork.

A second notice says that the closure will be from Fassler Ave. to Reina Del Mar Ave.

I think this is Caltrans getting us ready for how it's going to be when it starts widening Highway 1. Imagine this, every day, both ways, for how long exactly?

I got a notice on the county email list that this will be happening again tomorrow:
On Tuesday, August 4, 2015 between 9:30am and 3:30pm Caltrans will be doing road work in the northbound #2 (right) lane of SR1. The right lane will be closed and you should expect traffic delays. Please plan accordingly.

I left Serramonte at 11:40 a.m. and headed toward Pacifica. No message board, nothing. To make matters worse, there was an accident on Highway 1 southbound at Mori Point. The fire trucks and CHP and ambulance had a hard time getting through the traffic.
I walked in the door a little before 2!
Trying to find out from City Hall if it was notified by Caltrans.
