Old Surf Spot to reopen as Pacifica Brewery
November 14, 2018
According to a notice posted on the front door of the former Surf Spot, a new business is moving in soon called Pacifica Brewery. The liquor permit applicant is PCHRG, which we guess stands for Pacific Coast Highway Restaurant Group. Sounds like an L.A. group, since that's what they call Highway 1 down south. Up here we call it Highway 1. More details to come from Better Business Burro.
I met my love there. He was so handsome, having a pizza and a beer. Love this man. His Lou Louđ

I sure hope all the tables and bars are still in there. I milled that lumber from local trees that had to be removed.

Excited and interested to see development of the old Surf Spot. We need creative, quality places in Pacifica. I prefer to keep my business in town but am not a fan of fast food.

Any updates on when this will open, if they are still planning on having the large outdoor space, etc.? Anything?! So excited about something coming in there!

One aspect I'll recommend for the new owners to consider.
Connect the Sea Bowl location between Rockaway-Fassler with a dedicated bicycle-pedestrian option along the shoulder of northbound Highway 1.
Simple six-to-eight-foot-wide pedestrian-bike lane separators (collapsible plastic posts) along the northbound Highway 1 shoulder between Fassler Avenue and Sea Bowl would accomplish this and still allow any vehicles to turn right on Fassler if so desired.
There is an example of plastic bike-pedestrian-motor vehicle separation at Pedro Point shopping center along southbound San Pedro Avenue from San Pedro Creek to the entrance of Pedro Point shopping center. Positives: Beachgoers and shopping center visitors to Rockaway would then be able to walk or ride from Rockaway to the new brewery (former SurfSpot).
As the location is engineered now, there is no safe way to simply cross Highway 1 and get to the brewery (Sea Bowl Lane) without putting one's life at serious risk.
Driving from Rockaway on Highway 1 is very convoluted, as there are no U-turns at either Crespi or Linda Mar Boulevard, frustrating potential visitors into just giving up and moving on to easier-access feed-drink zones.
Driving east on Fassler and turning right onto Sea Bowl Lane is okay, but most do not know or even see it, and by the time they realize it, they are elsewhere.
It would be great to see this location vibrant again. I encourage the new owners to consider my suggestion.

Wow! Are we a little bit âjudgyâ already when you know absolutely nothing about anything when it comes to the new brewery! You should be thankful someone is going to open the place back up instead of another empty building/business in Pacifica. L.A. gang! Seriously? Where do you get this stuff! Personally cannot wait for its opening because the owners are amazing and successful restaurant and retail store owners who know what they are doing and actually are Pacificans born and raised! So please donât be a âhaterâ! Be an âembracerâ! Canât wait for you, Pacifica Brewery! I wish you much success!!!
Signed,
Someone who canât wait for a new place in Pacifica!!!
(EDITOR'S NOTE: Anyone who regularly reads my blog knows that I am a big booster of local businesses. I have been giving free publicity to a number of new and old Pacifica businesses, going back to my 2007 launch. My regular readers also know that I like to joke around and be sarcastic and snarky, especially when it comes to the differences between L.A. (where I grew up) and S.F. I used the word "gang" in the collective sense of "group," obviously not to imply that PCHRG is a bunch of gangsters.
And for the record, Better Business Burro is a longstanding screen name for a guy who contributes Riptide stories and pictures, even though he and I have our differences of opinion (except when it comes to our mutual disdain for DJT).
