1. Perhaps the president is counting on Republicans in the Senate to vindicate him, no matter what he's done? We don't know for sure what President Trump is thinking. But we've got to ask how many secret meetings he has had with the "Silicon Six" of social media and what was discussed. Recently, Trump met with Facebook CEO Zuckerberg; he has met in the past with Twitter CEO Dorsey. Who else? Are the "Silicon Six" et al. allowing misinformation and disinformation campaigns to masquerade as news to a public so busy to make ends meet that they don't have time to parse every "fact" published?
2. Trump's defense of the indefensible according to Trump surrogate Senator John Kennedy (R-Louisiana) as heard on Fox "News" today: https://threadreaderapp.com/thread/1198644095180255232.html NBC posts Trump admin. is withholding more than $100M in US military assistance to Lebanon that has been approved by Congress. https://twitter.com/NBCNews/status/1198444657765765120 What reason this time?
3. Yo! RIPTIDE readers, sneer and snicker, ignore at yo peril! WILL AMERICAN DEMOCRACY SURVIVE A TRUMP? In his new book "When at Times the Mob Is Swayed -- A Citizen’s Guide to Defending Our Republic," leading civil rights lawyer Burt Neuborne delineates 20 ways President Trump uses classic techniques of crowd manipulation in the same way, and with (so far) the same success, Hitler did. Here are 20 ways Trump's techniques compare to the early Hitler: https://www.commondreams.org/views/2019/08/09/leading-civil-rights-lawyer-shows-20-ways-trump-copying-hitlers-early-rhetoric-and CAN MASSIVE VOTER TURNOUT EVICT TRUMP? Yes, and that's the new real.
