There was a big turnout for the 7-9 hours in the Linda Mar Safeway today (Tuesday, 3/24). Quite a few people obviously under 60, though I heard several say they were shopping for elders. Some shoppers obeyed social distancing, others were oblivious to it. Heard one older guy shopping for bread cuss out another older guy who got next to him because he wanted to look at what was on the same shelves. Very long lines for checkout; self checkout was quickest, though "quick" is the wrong word. Could it be that the senior hours are such an attraction that we older folks might find other times less crowded?

In contrast, Sprouts up on Gellert in Colma had a security guy limiting the number of people who could be in the store at one time. They were out of some things, also, and all of the bulk bins were empty; but the experience was much faster and less stressful even though I was there later in the morning.

Has anyone braved Costco in recent days? Is it doable without sacrificing safeguards?

People are abusing the special senior shopping hours at grocery stores up and down the coast. The markets need to enforce the special rules, otherwise they are meaningless.
