"Driving conditions in the Sierra Nevada and Lake Tahoe Basin are treacherous. At Donner Pass, officials say the recent snowfall WILL break the snowiest December record of 179 inches set in 1970. The UC Berkeley Central Sierra Snow Lab in Soda Springs, California, reported 8 additional inches of snow in the last 24 hours on December 29, contributing to already record-breaking accumulation. The weather lab said the facility in the Sierra Nevada mountains had received 258 percent of its average amount of snow to that date, and 70 percent of the average snowfall for the entire season."
