The audience's wrath was evident soon after word got out. The following day, Owens, on the air, spoke about having "survivor's guilt," saying he would miss his colleagues. But when he defended owner Cumulus Media's move and said he was "excited about the new format," he found himself the target of hundreds of attacks on his Facebook page. Writers called his remarks "insincere," "phony," and "lame." Others absolved Owens of blame but compared the format switch to Netflix's price increase, and vowed to boycott KGO.
